David & Grace JohnLead PastorsIn 2001, David’s life was marvelously interrupted at the age of 21, when he sensed God calling him to ministry. Though music was his passion, he abandoned his pursuit of a music degree at Wayne State University and attended and graduated from Pistis School of Ministry, a 2-year full-time Bible school designed to train Christian leaders. Shortly thereafter he was ordained, and for the last 16 years he’s served in ministry full-time as a worship leader, youth pastor, campus ministry director and assistant pastor. In addition to his ministry career, David’s community involvement includes serving as an Americorps volunteer through New Detroit, Inc., and leading youth programs at the Michigan Institute for Nonviolence Education, Communities in Schools, and the Detroit Community Justice Partnership.Grace is a graduate of the University of Michigan with bachelor's degrees in Communications & Psychology. She has two great passions in this season of her life: supporting her family, and planting Impact Church. She and David have been married for 15 years this year and have two children, Karis (12) and David II (7). About Impact Detroit
Our Story: Impact Church began in 1996 as a small church plant in Jacksonville, FL. The pastors, George & April Davis, moved from their hometown, Detroit, MI, with a contingent of 12 adults and a bold vision to spread the Gospel across seven cities in Florida. As the church flourished and the vision was fulfilled, God continued to expand their vision. Now the Impact 7 & Beyond family includes churches in Florida, Georgia, Maryland, Texas, Virginia, and Peru. The vision to also plant a church in the Detroit area had been germinating in George & April's hearts for several years. At the same time, God placed a vision in the hearts of David & Grace John to pastor a church in the Detroit area. Through careful consideration and much prayer, both couples discerned that God was calling them to fulfill this vision.
On Sunday, September 13, 2020, Impact Church held its first Detroit service. In order to attend in-person, one was required to RSVP, pass a health screening, wear a mask, and practice social-distancing during the service. In spite of this, more than 250 people attended our launch day service and 3 people gave their hearts to Jesus!
